Another successful season for Central

While two Mt. Juliet wrestlers claimed state championships last Saturday, Wilson Central coach John Kramer said the just-completed season was a pretty good one for his Wildcats as well.

Central’s 11 wrestlers finished sixth in last weekend’s state tournament at Williamson County Ag Center in Franklin. Michael Kramer’s first loss of the season after 61 wins came in the state 285-pound final. Sean Sesnan was also runner up at 120, finishing 59-3. Damon Smith finished fifth.

The Wildcats went 39-10 in dual meets, winning District 13 and Region 7-AAA dual championships and the individual Region 7-AAA title. They finished in the top eight in the state duals.

“With the injuries we sustained throughout the season, I’m really proud of what our team was able to accomplish,” Coach Kramer said. “Since Christmas time, we were without standouts Sinjin Noga at 160 pounds and Kolin Miller at 220 points. Both were ranked in the state when they suffered season-ending injuries. We did not have another 160, so we had to forfeit that weight class the remainder of the season. At 220, we pulled Andreus Trotter up to varsity and he did a good job for us and qualified for state.

“It was a good season and with the kids coming back and the upcoming freshmen we are very happy with the future of the program.”
