Wildcats win region, 25 county wrestlers to state

MT. JULIET — Wilson Central won its fifth Region 7-AAA individual championship in six years, qualifying 11 for the state tournament as three Wildcats won their individual classes last weekend.

Sean Sesnan (120 pounds), Damon Smith (170) and Michael Kramer (285) won their individual classes. Gage Backus (113), Simon Pergande (126), Alex Pergande (132), Cullen Belcher (138) and Niko Noga (182) were second, Andreus Trotter (220) third and Grant Fetters (106) and Jeffery Walpole (195) fourth.

Central won with 199 points. Host Mt. Juliet was second with 162.

Lebanon will send three to state - Austin Reynolds at 145 pounds, Ryan Brown at 152 and James Baird at 220.

Eight Golden Bears will represent Mt. Juliet - Austin Plumlee at 126, Jalen Henry at 132, Zackrey Wilkins at 138, Steven Weist at 145, Dylan Quinn at 160, Christopher Humphreys at 182, Nathan Walling at 195 and Bryan Horner at 285.

In Division II, Friendship Christian, which restored wrestling following a hiatus of several years, will send three to state - Harrison Hoffsinger at 113, Tyson Strickland at 220 and Ryan Jackson at 285.

The state tournament will be held Thursday-Saturday at the Williamson County Agricultural Expo Center in Franklin.
