Central shines in season opener

GLADEVILLE — Competing in its season opener last Tuesday night, Wilson Central shone in its newly-installed spotlight and defeated visiting Stewarts Creek 54-21.

Wildcat winners by pin were Grant Fetters (106 pounds), Gage Backus (113), Simon Pergande (126), Sinjin Noga (160), Damon Smith (170), Niko Noga (182), Kolin Miller (220) and Michael Kramer (285).

Winning by decision were Sean Sesnan 8-1 (120) and Alex Pergande 7-5 (132).

Prior to the match, a brief tribute was held in memory of former Wildcat Lane Dickeson, who was killed in a car crash this past summer. His family was presented with a new warm-up with a dedication to Dickeson printed down the sleeve.

Wilson Central is ranked fourth in the initial poll of the season put out by Jeff Price, who took over for longtime pollster Luther Killian. The Wildcats’ 67 points in the power ranking is one fewer than No. 3 Baylor and four more than No. 5 Cleveland. Bradley Central is No. 1 with 98 points.

Central will be at Mt. Juliet today for the Wilson County Duals.
