Lady Devils win district volleyball title

Lebanon won the District 9-AAA championship Thursday night with a 25-18, 25-10, 25-14 triumph over Wilson Central at LHS’ Campbell Brandon Gym/Hester Gibbs Court.

Nicole Brill finished with four kills, two aces, a dig and an assist for Wilson Central while Sydney McClure collected five kills, a dig and a block; Emilee McDonald 16 assists and nine digs, Kathryn Bean four kills and three blocks, Hannah Potts three kills and a block, Mallory Weir two kills and two blocks, Hailey Hunter two digs and an ace, Grayce Guethlein and Hope Davidson four digs each, Katey Meador two digs and Sydney Dalton one as Central fell to 14-14.

Both teams will play in the Region 5-AAA tournament Tuesday at Brandon Gym. Lebanon will bring a 24-4 into a 2 p.m. match against Beech before Central takes on District 10 champion Station Camp at 4. The winners will play for the championship at 6 with both advancing to the sectional on Thursday at the home gym of the region champ.

Friendship falls in district final, hosts FRA in regional Saturday

NASHVILLE — Friendship Christian fell to five-time state champion Goodpasture 25-18, 25-18, 25-12 Thursday night in the finals of the Division II-A Middle Region District 2 tournament at Davidson Academy.

Cameron Burton led the Lady Commanders with 19 assists while Bailey Bryant notched 19 digs, Syd McCormick nine kills and Katie Headly six kills.

McCormick and Burton were named to the all-tournament team. McCormick was picked first-team all-district while Burton and Pryce Daniels made the second team.

Friendship will play host to Franklin Road Academy at 4:30 p.m. Saturday in the Middle Region tournament at the Bay Family Sportsplex.
