Litchford signs with CU volleyball

Cumberland volleyball coach Kathy Slaughter announced the signing of Springfield native Keri Litchford to scholarship papers for the 2017-18 academic year.

The Springfield High School product is a four-year letterwinner for the Yellow Jackets, garnering All-District 10-AAA honors as a junior and senior and all-district tournament as a senior. She posted 230 kills with 250 digs as a junior and 312 kills with 327 digs this season at SHS.

Litchford has also lettered three years in softball, earning all-district accolades last season while batting .380 with one home run.

She is the daughter of Phillip and Julie Ann Litchford.

Five volleyball players earn NAIA Scholar-Athlete accolades

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Cumberland volleyball players Michelle Evans, Maco Lerno, Ashley Sherrick, Caprisha Webster and Amanda Worrell werenamed 2016 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes, as announced last Friday by the national office during the NAIA Championships.

Student-athletes must be a junior or senior and maintain a 3.50 grade-point-average and above to be eligible for the award. Students must also have attended the university for at least two full semesters to be eligible.

Evans, a senior from Franklin, carries a 3.54 GPA in health and human performance while Lerno, a senior from El Centro, Calif., is also majoring in health and human performance and holds a 3.63.

Sherrick, a senior from Ridgecrest, Calif., has a 3.62 GPA in child growth and learning and Webster, a junior from Johnson City, posts a 3.74 in psychology. Worrell, a junior from Murfreesboro, carries a 3.81 in health care administration.
