StageStruck Productions returns to Wilson County

StageStruck Productions, a local community theater group with a deep history in the area, has returned to Wilson County.

In the 1970s, the group started as the Sound and Light Theater Company, and would later become Chapel Playhouse, performing at Pickett Chapel.

After a fire led to Pickett Chapel being condemned, the group moved to the Nave Funeral Home. Afterward, the group became a dinner theater acting troupe at the Thomas House in Red Boiling Springs.

Now, they are again a community theater in Wilson County, and they perform at Westland United Methodist Church in Lebanon.

StageStruck presents original plays, which helps with casting and adjusting individual performances, according to Misty Embry, creative director. Embry and her father, Gene, are the playwrights.

“We own the scripts, so we are able to tweak them and add or remove characters at will,” Embry said.

When it comes to casting, the community involvement stretches to all sorts of community members.

“We had a 60-something-year-old lady come in to audition, and she had never acted, but she said it was on her bucket list,” Embry said.

Embry added that this situation was fine because she enjoys working with people who have a variety of backgrounds. People of all ages and skill levels are welcome to participate in StageStruck plays.

“That’s what we live to do — to do theater with everyday people,” Embry said. “If you want to be on stage, we’ll put you on stage, and we’ll help you out along the way so you have fun the whole time.”

StageStruck will present “Dracular,” the fourth play since the group returned to Wilson County, Oct. 21-23 and Oct. 28-29 at 7:30 p.m. at 110 Dawson Ln. in Lebanon.

For reservations, call 615-965-2425 or email [email protected] Desserts and concessions will be available.

“’Dracular’ is a Halloween comedy, a complete farce of ‘Dracula,’” Embry said.

The group also has youth productions planned, including a Christmas production and a production next summer.
