Five-run fifth lifts Lady Bears past Central

HENDERSONVILLE — Mt. Juliet scored five times in the bottom of the fifth inning Tuesday to overcome a Wilson Central lead as the Lady Bears beat their arch-rival 6-3 in the District 9-AAA tournament at Drakes Creek Park.

With the Lady Bears trailing 3-1 going into the fifth, Kaileigh Billington doubled to left field and Lexi Stafford reached on an error. Gabby Faccadio’s hot smash went off the third baseman for an RBI single.

Tyffany Cargile surprised Central with a bunt single to lead the bases. An error on Makayla Draper scored two to put Mt. Juliet in front 4-3. Kassidy Davis relieved starter Ashley Foster in the circle and was greeted by Savannah Cole’s RBI single to center field.

Central loaded the bases in the seventh, but Kenzie Meador was called out for being out of the box as the Lady Wildcats dropped into Wednesday’s 5 p.m. loser’s bracket game against either Portland or Gallatin.

Mt. Juliet advanced to Wednesday’s 7 p.m. winner’s final against Lebanon or Beech.

Alyssa Costley allowed three earned runs on eight hits while striking out seven to earn the win.

Foster surrendered two earned runs on seven hits in 4 1/3 to take the loss. Davis gave up three hits over the final 1 2/3.

Billington doubled to right in the first and scored on Cargile’s single to left.

Julia Barnett hit the first pitch she saw from Costley over the left-center-field fence to pull Central into a 1-1 tie in the second.

Sydnee Richetto doubled off the left-field fence in the Central third. Her sister, Kaylee, hit a drive to the fence in left and was awarded a home run when the ball hit the left-fielder’s glove and bounced over the barrier for a 3-1 Lady Wildcat lead.

Alaina Morris went 3-for-3 while Sydnee Richetto racked up two hits for Central.
