ANTIOCH — Friendship Christian breezed to a 7-1 win at Ezell-Harding in the opening round of the Middle Region tournament Monday.

The win advanced the Lady Commanders to the Division II state, which is the equivalent of DI’s sectional. But first, Friendship will face either Monday’s Middle Tennessee Christian-Goodpasture winner at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Battle Ground Academy in the region semifinals. The top four in each region qualify for the state’s final 12.

Friendship jumped to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Ezell-Harding trimmed the margin to 3-1 in the third before the Lady Commanders got that score back in the fifth and broke the contest open with three in the sixth.

FCS finished with seven hits, led by two each from Anna Belle Cooksey, Brooke Jones and Sydney McCormick. Jones drove in two runs.

Kennedy West held Ezell-Harding to three hits while striking out 11 in a complete game.
