Cumberland women’s soccer moved up one spot to No. 23 in this week’s NAIA coaches’ top 25 poll, released late Tuesday by the national office.

The Phoenix defeated Brenau University, 5-0, and Point University, 5-1, and posted a 3-0 win at West Virginia Tech since the previous poll on September 5. Cumberland dropped a 3-2 decision in double overtime earlier this week to Georgia Gwinnett, a match delayed twice because of lightning.

Cumberland has scored 18 goals through six outings this season, including four from Rebecca Holloway and Mariah Aplin and three from Savannah Moreland. Holloway and Moreland lead the club with four assists apiece, but Holloway will miss Friday’s match against Indiana Wesleyan after receiving a pair of yellow cards in the overtime periods versus Georgia Gwinnett.

The Phoenix will begin Mid-South Conference play on Tuesday next week, playing host to the University of the Cumberlands, and end a four-match homestand against ninth-ranked University of Mobile on Sept.28 at Lindsey Donnell Stadium-Kirk Field.
