MURFREESBORO — Members of the U.S. Navy Blue Angels and U.S. Air Force F-22 Raptor Demonstration Team will visit Middle Tennessee State University on June 3 in advance of this year’s Great American Airshow in Smyrna.

The special combined appearance by representatives of both groups, free and open to the public, will run from 8:30-10:30 a.m. in the State Farm Lecture Hall at the MTSU’s Business and Aerospace Building.

“We’re honored to welcome the Blue Angels and Raptor teams to our campus,” said Mark Byrnes, interim university provost. “This terrific event, sponsored by our Department of Aerospace, will allow our campus and community talk to pilots and learn more about these powerful aircraft.”

The back-to-back presentations will feature Blue Angels personnel from 8:30-9:30 a.m., followed by Raptor team members from 9:30-10:30 a.m.

Visitors coming to campus should visit tinyurl.com/MTSUParkingMap to find parking information and building locations.

Both flight demonstration teams will be in the area as part of the 2016 Great Tennessee Airshow on June 4-5 at Smyrna Airport.

MTSU’s Department of Aerospace, part of the College of Basic and Applied Sciences, has a Flight Operations Center at Murfreesboro Airport. It is one of the university’s signature programs and one of the top aviation programs in the country.

MTSU is the presenting sponsor of the Raptor team’s appearance at the airshow and the aerospace department will have an information booth and aircraft display set up at the Smyrna event.

The university is also a partner with the Tennessee Wing of the Civil Air Patrol, the volunteer civilian auxiliary of the Air Force and members of its cadet program will be recognized at the June 3 event on campus.
