A classic Mercedes more than five decades old brought top dollar recently in an online auction.

A non-running, unrestored 1960 Mercedes 220SE cabriolet convertible was sold through online auction by Tays Realty and Auction for $60,500.

The car was a restoration project planned by the owner, but he died before starting on the project. Bidders registered and bid from as far away as Australia and Turkey.

“We were very pleased for our client, and the targeted advertising into the classic and collectible car market paid off much better than anticipated.” said Sam Tays, owner of Tays Realty and Auction. “The 1960s model of this car was unique, and our diligence in searching out specific buyers was key to the high selling price, given the condition of the vehicle.”
