The inaugural Dice and Dreams event Saturday night at the Capitol Theatre in Lebanon was a huge success, according to Britney Wilkerson, recreational program center director with Empower Me Center.

The event featured a VIP event, a singer/songwriter portion and then a casino night, where players used fake casino money to raise funds for Empower Me Center.

Artists Brennin, Calman Heart, Kim McLean and Ray Stephenson entertained the crowd during the singer/songwriter portion of the evening. Afterwards, the casino event took place with dozens of people playing casino games such as roulette, black jack, Texas hold ‘em, poker and craps.

The money raised through the event sponsorships, the VIP reception, table sponsors, general admission, the silent auction and more helped add to the coffers for phase 1 of Empower Me Center’s land purchase and building fund.

The first portion of the three-part fund will cost $3 million with the total near $15 million. That will include recreational fields, a sportsplex and more.

There were four gaming winners, and the casino money was turned in for tickets to a getaway weekend to Orange Beach, Ala., the Tropicana Resort and Casino in Evansville, Ind., and two wine packages.

Wilkerson said the group continues to fundraise for the center, which will help and enable special needs individuals in Wilson County. There is no deadline for the fundraising. However, there is currently a “90 Days to Donate” campaign underway, which offers the public 90 days from October to the end of the year to donate.

“The community has been a great support,” Wilkerson said. “We’ve had an event once every three months. We had a softball tournament, a summer camp and now Dice and Dreams. The summer camp took place at the Harold B. Green community basketball center.

“The Dice and Dreams was a huge success, and we had a lot of local support. We’re helping with people of all needs. We’re empowering lives and daring to dream.
