Lebanon Mayor Bernie Ash continued his recovery Friday after he underwent open-heart valve replacement and single-bypass surgery Wednesday.

Ash apparently suffered a mild heart attack Monday evening and was taken to Tri-Star Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, where he remained Friday in recovery from Wednesday’s surgery.

According to mayoral assistant Debbie Jessen, Ash’s doctor was pleased with the valve replacement. She said it wouldn’t be long before he would be able to leave the hospital.

Jessen said she runs the office while Ash is out and wasn’t sure when he would return to his duties as full-time mayor.

“We should know soon,” said Jessen. “Knowing Mayor Ash, it won’t be long.”
