Strode cards final-round 78, CU places sixth

VALDOSTA, Ga. — Senior Savanna Strode posted a final-round six-over par 78 but no other Cumberland player shot below 80 and the Phoenix dropped to sixth in the overall standings on Tuesday at the Thomas University Invitational.

Strode tied for 13th individually with a two-day total of 157 on the par-72, 5,997-yard Kinderlou Forest Golf Club course in Valdosta. Sophomore Ana Laura Pages Preuss carded a second-round 82, tying for 18th, while sophomore Raquel Romero Valverde shot 81 on Tuesday for a two-day total of 160, tied for 21st.

Senior Abbey Burgdorf recorded a second-round 84, as did junior Anna Leigh Cleveland. Burgdorf finished with a two-day score of 164, tied for 26th, while Cleveland posted a two-round total of 167, tied for 32nd.

Cumberland dropped from third to sixth in the team standings, overtaken by Lindsey Wilson, Campbellsville University and Southeastern University. The University of the Cumberlands won the event by two strokes over Dalton State College.

The Phoenix will play again in two weeks at the RedHawk Fall Classic in Athens, Ala.
