Williams ties for seventh with third straight 72

BUCHANAN — Senior Austin Williams shot even-par 72 for the third straight round, tying for seventh individually while Cumberland finished ninth as a team at the Skyhawk Classic on Tuesday at Paris Landing State Park.

Williams carded three straight rounds of even-par on the 6,685-yard course, finishing six strokes behind John A. Logan College’s Brian Whitson, who also shot 72 in the final round on Tuesday.

Junior Garrett Daniel tied for 39th overall, recording a final-round 75, while senior Zach Polston posted an 80 on Tuesday, tying for 50th. Freshman Reece Gaddes shot 82, tying for 58th, and sophomore Jacob Nolen placed 69th, registering a final-round 83.

Cumberland recorded a team score of 309 on Tuesday, dropping one spot in the team standings to ninth. The Phoenix will play again in two weeks at the Bojangles Tennessee Intercollegiate in Loudon.
