Lebanon’s win streak increases to four

GALLATIN—The Lebanon Blue Devils showed Friday they can take their win streak on the road.

Tyrique Cooper ran for 230 yards and four touchdowns as the Blue Devils held on to beat host Station Camp 34-32, stopping the Bison’s two-point conversion with 1:46 left.

Tobi Odewale, who had a key interception earlier in the end zone, recovered Station Camp's last-ditch onside kick to secure the win.

The victory was Lebanon's fourth straight, marking the school's longest winning streak since 2006. Lebanon hasn't won five straight since the 2004 team won seven in a row. That was also the last time Lebanon won a TSSAA playoff game.

The win also solidified Lebanon's spot in Region 4-6A. The Blue Devils (4-3, 2-1) could finish as high as second – enabling them to host a first-round game – depending on how they fare at Wilson Central and Rossview.

Station Camp (1-6, 0-3) was led by Nick Nelson's 305 rushing yards and four touchdowns, including scoring runs of 71 and 33 yards in the last five minutes of the game.

Both teams went three-and-out on their first two possessions, but Lebanon scored late in the first quarter when Jeremiah Hastings caught a 9-yard scoring pass from Chandler Crite.

Hastings, facing one-on-one coverage, tipped a highly thrown ball back in the air and caught it for the score.

The Blue Devils went to Cooper for their next two touchdowns, scoring on runs of 31 and 40 yards to take a 20-0 lead.

Cooper had 86 rushing yards on seven carries in the first half.

Station Camp hadn't gotten a first down to that point, but drove and scored on a drive led by Nick Nelson. The Bison backup quarterback and also leading tailback, he drove Station Camp downfield and eventually scored on a 19-yard run to cut Lebanon's lead to 20-7 at halftime.

Cooper's third touchdown run pushed the lead to 27-7 before Nelson scored on a pair of runs to pull the Bison within a touchdown.

Cooper had a 79-yard touchdown run with five minutes to go, making it 34-20, but Nelson's two touchdowns got Station Camp close before Lebanon held on.

The Blue Devils play at Coffee County next week.
