The Mt. Juliet Christian Academy middle-school football team lost to Harding Academy Tuesday night 34-6 in a game that showed early promise for the Saints.

The loss moved MJCA to 2-4 on the season in advance of the Saints’ final game next week.

The Generals marched down the field on their opening possession to score six points but came up empty on the 2-point conversion attempt.

MJCA quarterback Shawn Link answered with a beautiful drive which included a 33-yard strike to wide receiver Tyler Barnes and a 23-yard pass to running back Eli Wilson. Link capped the effort with a 2-yard touchdown run, which tied the game at 6-6.

The second quarter was a defensive battle with neither team scoring. The Saints ended the half with a lengthy drive that didn't reach the end zone but featured 35 yards of rushing from Wilson.

An onside kick recovery from the Saints' Eli Whitaker began the second half. However, MJCA couldn't capitalize, and Harding scored the first of three second-half touchdowns.

Mt. Juliet Christian will play the final game of its season Tuesday against Williamson County's Grace Christian Academy at 6 p.m.
