Purple Tigers pounce Champions

Watertown got its second win in as many weeks Friday as the Purple Tigers ran past Cascade, 41-0.

Watertown head coach Gavin Webster said the second straight win symbolized the program’s return to its natural ways after an early season win and key injuries.

“We probably tried to do some stuff we’re not used to doing and just got back to the stuff that we do and know how to do,” Webster.

Heath Price kicked off the shutout with a 46-yard run less than three minutes into the game and Deramus Carey followed five minutes later with a 3-yard scoring run of his own.

Price got his second score of the night on a 13-yard pass from Bryce Webster, who returned from injury for the game, on the first play of the second quarter.

Running back Keon Dotson scrambled for a 28-yard run with just less than six minutes remaining in the half to give Watertown a 28-0 halftime lead.

The Purple Tigers forced and recovered two fumbles in the first half, and three for the night.

Brandon Allison continued the scoring run for Watertown in the second half on a 19-yard run with 7:52 remaining in the quarter. Nathaniel Gutierrez picked off a Cascade pass following the score to set up Carey’s second score of the night on a one-yard run.

“Defense played superb tonight. I think the offense clicked really well. I felt we got after it and dominated the offensive and defensive line,” Webster said.

Watertown rushed for 239 yards in the game, while the defense held Cascade to 40 passing yards and 63 rushing yards.

Watertown will welcome Forrest High School on Friday. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

“We got a tough battle. We’ll have to get back to work. We got Forrest coming in,” Webster said.
