MT. JULIET - The Mt. Juliet Christian Academy middle school football team moved to 2-2 in a tough loss to the St. Rose Stars Thursday night at Ed Suey Field.

Stellar defensive and special teams play from the MJCA Saints couldn't overcome a St. Rose team that scored early and managed to win 13-8.

St. Rose scored early in the first quarter behind a solid rushing and pass attack to take the lead 7-0. A second drive was thwarted by Saint standout Eli Wilson with the first of two end zone interceptions which ended St. Rose scoring efforts. St. Rose added another TD in the second quarter to go up 13-0. The half ended on the other Wilson goal line pick, which he returned 51 yards but was tackled short of the end zone.

Mt. Juliet Christian's strongest offensive effort came in the third Quarter. Saint QB Shawn Link threw for over 100 yards, including a 26-yard touchdown strike to Wilson. The quarter ended 13-6.

The Saints defense shut out the Stars the entire second half. Highlights included a fumble recovery returned for 52 yards by Wilson and a safety that turned out to be the final score of the game. Outstanding defensive contributions were also made by safety Judah Webb, who made two tackles that each resulted in losses of 10 yards for the Stars.

Mt. Juliet Christian will play at home again at 6:30 p.m. Thursday against Davidson Academy.
