Game warden contact: Wilson County residents who need to contact local game warden Tanner Romsdale about issues regarding wildlife problems, or to report poaching activities, can do so by calling: 615-781-6622.

Park activities: Tennessee's 56 state parks, plus assorted natural areas, offer a variety of free activities during the spring and summer.

The season kicked off last week with guided hikes in several parks, including Cedars of Lebanon. Other popular area parks are Longhunter State Park and Bledsoe Creek State Park, both of which offer a range of recreational and educational activities.

For a list of events and activities check the Tennessee State Parks guide, or visit the individual parks' websites.

A fee is charged for some activities, such as fishing, boat rentals and picnic shelters. Also, reservations may be required for overnight camp sites and RV parking.

Firearms and alcohol are not permitted in state parks. Also check on each park's policy regarding campfires, which may change depending on weather conditions.

Fishing comments: The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is seeking comments and suggestions from fishermen, and the input will be taken into consideration when the regulations are set in August.

Comments can be mailed to:

Fisheries Division-Comments

Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency P.O. Box 40747

Or they can be emailed to: [email protected]

The deadline for submissions is April 23.

License reminder: With turkey season opening April 1, hunters are reminded that licenses expired Feb. 28. Licenses can be purchased on-line on the TWRA website, tnwildlife.org or at most outdoors outlets.

Check-in changes: Hunters who do not use the internet or social app to check in their turkeys are reminded of a 20% reduction in the number of check-in stations. Some check-in stations they used in the past may not be in operation this season.

All turkeys must be checked in the day they are killed.
