Mt. Juliet’s Graves wins CCBA’s season opener

Mt. Juliet’s John Graves became 2017’s first winner as the Cedar City Bass Anglers’ tour opened its 15th season on Percy Priest Lake last Saturday.

Battling 43 anglers and dangerous waves from strong straight-line winds, Graves captured his fourth career win with five fish caught down lake on a crank bait and an MM jig to win $680.

Whit Gammon, also of Mt. Juliet, finished with 14.8 pounds caught off steep banks with a heavy jig and jerkbait. His catch included the big fish of the day weighing 5.81 pounds. His catch was worth $720, including the big fish, plus a $500 WCA bonus.

Danny Heicher of Murfreesboro was third with 14.51 pounds caught down lake slow rolling a spinnerbait. He earned $250 for his creel and $350 in bonus money.

Tony Mick of Cookeville was fourth with 12.69 pounds caught on offshore structure with a crankbait to win $150.

Jeff Johnson of LaVergne was fifth with a limit caught mid lake with a jig to earn $60.

Bill Hall of Grant had the second big fish of 5.63 pounds to earn $90.

CCBA’s next event will be April 23 on Center Hill Lake.
