Reported fire at Watertown Elementary was a false alarm

Staff Reports • Jan 12, 2017 at 12:37 PM

A reported fire at Watertown Elementary School early Thursday afternoon was determined to be a false alarm, according to Watertown fire Chief John Jewell.

Workers on-site were drilling while working on an addition to the building, and dust from the drilling apparently set off the fire alarm.

A witness who saw the dust mistakenly thought it was smoke and called in a confirmed fire.

According to Jewell, firefighters quickly responded after getting the call at about noon and determined it was a good intent false call.
