High School Musical is a contemporary musical comedy, about a popular high school basketball star and a shy, academically gifted newcomer discovering they share a secret passion for singing. When they sign up together to audition for the lead roles in the school musical, it threatens East High’s rigid social order and sends their peers into an uproar.
The students performed three shows for the Wilson County community.
“The show didn’t start until 7 p.m., and we had a line outside,” Groover said about opening night Friday. “It wasn’t even 6 p.m.”
Eighth grader Emma Farley played Gabriella, and seventh grader Brad Thompson portrayed Troy. Eighth graders Tanner Welch played Ryan, and Bailey Levy played Taylor in the musical. Eighth grader Hayden Pierce also had a lead role.
Nearly 50 Mt. Juliet Middle School students were involved in the production’s cast and crew.
