The Wilson Central High School marching band ended its 2016 competition season on a high note Saturday at the Bandapalooza competition at Portland High School.

The band won first place in the color guard and percussion categories, second in band in its class and was awarded best pit crew honors.

The first place finishes for color guard and percussion lifted the two sections after a pair of second-place finishes at the Blue Devil Invitational and Station Camp Marching Invitational competitions earlier this season.

The Blue Devil Invitational was held Oct. 1, and the Wilson Central band finished second overall out of 15 bands. In addition to the second-place finishes in percussion and color guard, drum majors Kelcie Meador, Cori Johnson and Noah Ngo earned a first-place finish.

The band also received the spirit award at the Station Camp Marching Invitational, in addition to its second-place finishes in guard and percussion.

The band, which is under the direction of Stacy Jernigan and Carter Noblin, will perform at a Veteran’s Day concert Nov. 11.
