Four runners finish in top 15 at St. Louis Fall Classic

ST. LOUIS — Freshman Amber Mays and sophomore Claudia Tepox both finished in the Top 15 for the women and seniors Garang Madut and Tanner Harp did the same for the men, leading the Cumberland cross country teams at the St. Louis Fall Classic on Saturday.

Mays placed eighth to pace the women’s harriers, covering the 5K course in 19:58.3, while Tepox finished 12th in 20:10.2. Freshman Riley Kilian was also in the Top 10, coming across in 20:26.7 for 19th.

Senior Alesa Steiner placed 38th in 21:28.4, with sophomore Taylor Blankenship in 42nd (21:45.7). Sophomores Michaela Postell and Gavin DuVall placed 48th and 52nd, respectively, with times of 22:02.6 and 22:07.2.

Madut was again the top finisher for the men, completing the 8K course in 26:58.4, while Harp was 13th in 27:03.5 and freshman Jerry Rojas was right behind in 16th in 27:23.9. Sophomore Chris Swann placed 22nd in 27:30.1 and freshman Jake Royster was 28th in 27:49.4.

Sophomores Carlos Tirado and Michael Rogers finished 35th and 36th, respectively, with times of 28:13.4 and 28:21.8. Junior Kason Halfacre was 41st in 28:35.8, freshman Jordan Hill finished 50th in 28:44.9 and senior Spencer Rearick came across 61st in 29:42.0.

Cumberland will compete again in two weeks at the Mid-South Conference Championships in Bowling Green, Ky., with the women racing at 10 a.m. followed by the men at 10:45.
