Freshman Rojas, Kilian lead CU for second straight week

MEMPHIS — Jerry Rojas set a freshman record and Riley Kilian paced the women’s team for the third straight week, leading the Cumberland cross country teams on Saturday at the Rhodes Invitational.

Rojas completed the 8K course in 27:09.47, setting a Cumberland freshman record. The Alamo, Tenn., native finished 42nd overall among 150 runners.

Senior Garang Madut was 52nd in 27:43.35, while senior Tanner Harp placed 56th in 27:51.12. Freshman Jacob Royster and sophomore Chris Swann finished 59th and 60th, respectively, with times of 27:56.71 and 28:02.31. Sophomore Carlos Tirado was 79th in 29:01.62, junior Kason Halfacre crossed the finish line in 29:14.09 for 82nd, sophomore Michael Rogers posted a time of 29:16.73 (101st) and senior Spencer Rearick was 130th in 31:51.35.

On the women’s side, Kilian continued her strong freshman campaign with a 39th-place finish on the 5K course in 20:00.59, while sophomore Claudia Tepox was 46th in 20:12.97 and freshman Amber Mays came across in 20:16.47 for 50th. Senior Alesa Steiner placed 92nd in 22:04.21 and sophomore Michaela Postell was 96th in 22:29.38.

Cumberland will take the week off before heading to the Greater Louisville Classic in Louisville, Ky., on Oct. 1.
