An Indiana man charged with leaving the scene of an automobile accident that resulted in a death in 2015 pleaded not guilty in Wilson County criminal court Monday.

Walter Girton, 37, was in jail in Indiana and was transported to Wilson County to face the charges. He was also charged in Wilson County with violation of probation, failure to give immediate notice of an accident and driving on a revoked/suspended/canceled driver’s license.

Girton was jailed in Indiana earlier this year for drug possession charges. The incident in Wilson County happened in February 2015.

Booking records with the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office show that Girton had a Mt. Juliet address in previous unrelated arrests in Wilson County prior to being jailed in Indiana.

Girton will be scheduled to appear in Wilson County criminal court again in November.
