Joseph’s Storehouse delivers to hurricane victims

Joseph’s Storehouse Food Ministry co-founder and executive director Peggy Evans recently expressed her appreciation to the supporters and volunteers who “donated their time and effort to help send life-saving food, water and other items to several locations which have suffered such devastating and unimaginable damage from the monstrous hurricanes [Harvey and Irma].”

“We shipped a total of 12 pallets that weighed more than 16,000 pounds, including four pallets of meals ready-to-eat, three pallets of canned goods, two pallets of bottled water, one pallet of hygiene products, one pallet of cookies and one pallet of assorted snacks and other goodies,” Evans said.

“The Bible tells us anyone who gives even a cup of cold water to one of these in Jesus’ name will be rewarded. We are so appreciative of the people in this area who have assisted us in helping those who are in such desperate need.”

The next Joseph’s Storehouse food giveaway for families who need assistance in Wilson, Trousdale, Smith and DeKalb counties will be Saturday from 8:30-11:30 a.m. First-time applicants must be able to show proof of residency with a utility bill, rent receipt or lease; photo identification such as a driver’s license or picture ID; and proof of government assistance such as SNAP, SSI, AFDC, LIHEAP, public housing or household income.

Those who would like to volunteer to help should arrive between 7:45-8:15 a.m. to allow for work assignments. Groups of six or more must make arrangements online or contact Janis Ayers at 615-453-5777 at least two weeks in advance to participate.

Additional volunteers are also needed to help with the Thursday morning food giveaways, which are held for the elderly and disabled on the Thursday immediately prior to the last Saturday of each month.
