Cats to join yoga class Saturday

Saturday’s yoga class at the Mill is about to get furry.

New Leash on Life will bring cats and kittens to join those practicing yoga for the Cats on Mats event Saturday starting at 2 p.m. at the Mill.

“The event was brought to us by Bloom at the Mill,” said Angela Chapman, director of New Leash on Life. “We thought it would be a great way to give the cats some extra exposure and give the yoga class something to look forward to.”

The cats will show up to the yoga studio early in order to get familiar with the space before the class. About six or seven cats will roam freely during the yoga class.

“The class is for all levels, so even if you just started or are new to yoga it is accessible,” said Rachel King, owner of the Bloom yoga studio. “We’re excited about it, and hopefully if it goes will it is something that we can do again.”

King said the yoga studio at the Mill has room for 30 people, and there are about eight spots left for Saturday’s class. Tickets are $15 and all proceeds go to New Leash on Life.

“This gesture and gift is especially appreciated at this time as we are in kitten season and see a spike in kittens needing homes and help this time of year,” Chapman said.

The Cats on Mats event will open at 2 p.m. and participants will have 30 minutes to meet the cats before the hour-long yoga class starting at 2:30 p.m.
