For the last 19 years, Shawn Smith, owner of The Jewelers, has been living out a dream. It’s a dream he wasn't even aware he had until he stopped at locally owned jewelry store to have a piece commissioned and fell in love with the idea of one-of-a-kind created jewelry art.

Ever since that faithful day in 1997, Smith has been honing his craft. In 2010, the economy took a turn and that store closed, giving Smith the opportunity to open his own store. Since then, he and designer Greg McCloud have been setting the standard for all things custom jewelry in Middle Tennessee.

"Gregory can take a pile of old, worn-out jewelry and turn it into the most amazing piece you have ever seen," Smith said. "He is our hidden gem."

When The Jewelers moved to its new location at 1501 W. Main St. next to Market Basket Liquors in 2016, a new era was born.

"This is the look I had dreamed of. This is our style,” said Smith.

His tattoos showing, blue jeans and untucked shirt style is a bit out of the ordinary in these parts, but Shawn is OK with that.

"I like to feel comfortable, and I want our clients to feel the same. We don't want your business one time, we want to see you again and again," he said.

The Jewelers doesn't just offer custom. They have a huge selection of the area’s coolest styles, including engagement, colored gems and even custom-designed home decor.
