Women place eighth, men ninth at Thomas Burris Memorial

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Cumberland’s women placed eighth and the men were ninth in bowling action at the Thomas N. Burris Memorial Kentucky Collegiate Classic on Jan. 29 at Eastland Lanes.

Senior Margaret Moss paced the women’s team, finishing 29th individually with 823 pins, 32 pins shy of the Top 20. Sophomore Taylor Wagner was 36th with 795 pins, while freshman Savannah Shirley came in 42nd with 761, sophomore Lauren Taylor placed 44th with 758 and freshman Kaitlin Cashion was 54th with 719.

Cumberland was sixth as a team with 3,856 pins after the individual portion of the competition and registered 1,760 pins in the Baker portion to finish eighth. All 12 Baker games and the five individual games were rolled on Friday after the event was rescheduled because of snowy weather last weekend.

Junior Anh Nguyen finished eighth individually for the men with 913 pins, 17 shy of placing in the top five. Sophomore Chase Midgett was 34th with 818 pins, followed by senior Chris Stewart with 756. Senior John Isaac Davis placed 59th with 722 and sophomore Cris Brooks finished 63rd with 714.

Cumberland was ninth after the five individual games with 3,933 pins and posted 1,902 in the 12 Baker games for a total of 5,835.

Nguyen finishes 11th for CU at Bulldog Classic

RICHMOND, Ky. — Cumberland’s men placed ninth and the women were 13th in bowling action at the Bulldog Classic on Jan. 30-31.

Junior Anh Nguyen posted 1,077 pins to finish 11th individually and sophomore Chase Midgett placed 21st with 1,044 pins. Senior Chris Stewart was 51st with 952, senior John Isaac Davis followed in 57th with 932 and sophomore Cris Brooks placed 70th with 884.

Cumberland stood eighth after the individual games with 4,889 pins and tallied 1,996 in the 12 Baker games for 6,885 total pins.

Senior Margaret Moss paced the women for the second straight outing, finishing 29th with 896 total pins. Freshman Savannah Shirley was next in 48th with 820, followed by freshman Kaitlin Cashion with 729 (72nd). Sophomore Lauren Taylor and Taylor Wagner placed 77th and 80th, respectively, with 696 and 664 pins.

Cumberland totaled 3,814 pins in the five individual games and 1,856 in the 12 Baker games for a total of 5,670.

Both teams are set to take part in the Mid-South Conference Championships Feb. 12-13 in Bowling Green, Ky.
