Lady Avs hold off Tigerettes

WATERTOWN — Winfree Bryant’s girls built a big lead before holding off a fierce Watertown comeback as the Lady Aviators escaped with a 33-30 win Thursday night.

The Lady Avs led 11-2 following the first quarter, 22-9 at halftime and 29-22 through three. Watertown got as close as 31-30 in the closing moments before Winfree Bryant escaped with a 9-1 mark. The loss was the Tigerettes’ second of the season, both to WBMS.

Point guard Addie Grace Porter ignited Winfree Bryant with two first-quarter three-pointers on her way to a game-high 16 points. Landry Dixon finished with five, Kendall Arnold and Samaya Rhodes four each and Avery Harris and Alaina Smith two apiece.

Brittni Allison led Watertown with 12 points while Saranda Woodson added eight and Emma Christensen two as each hit a pair of threes. Daejah Maklary and McKayla Nix each notched two points.

Winfree Bryant will travel to Carroll-Oakland on Monday night for a 6 p.m. game.

Hayslip’s 33 leads Commanders

Friendship Christian’s boys continued their red-hot ways Thursday night with a 49-20 triumph over visiting Westmoreland at the Bay Family Sportsplex.

The Commanders scored 14 first-period points and led 24-5 at halftime as they won their 11th straight for a 12-1 record.

Camden Hayslip hit three 3-pointers and scored a season-high 33 points for Friendship while Caleb Bridges and Bobby Owen each finished with four and Kolby Gaines, Drew Porter, Zach Elliot and David Porter a basket apiece.
