Commanders oust DCA, reach state round of 12

NASHVILLE — Friendship Christian clinched a berth in the Division II-A state tournament’s round of 12 Monday with a 13-3 thumping of Donelson Christian in the Middle Region tournament at Christ Presbyterian.

The Commanders scored three runs in the first inning, one in the second and seven in the third for a 10-0 lead. DCA scored its runs in the fifth before Friendship run-ruled the Wildcats with two in the bottom of the fifth.

Friendship outhit DCA 14-9. Tarver Hayslip homered and tripled, driving in two runs. Hayden Alexander knocked in four runs on two doubles and a single. Justin Seagraves singled twice and Braden Reece once as both doubled and drove in two runs. Jared Dickey doubled and singled.

Seagraves pitched 4 1/3 innings for the win, allowing seven hits while striking out four. Ethan Bult recorded the final two outs in the fifth.

Friendship faced host CPA later Monday in the bracket final, needing two wins to take the final. The “if necessary” game would be Tuesday. The region final will be Wednesday before the state begins Friday. FCS and CPA will advance, as will two teams from the other bracket.
