Wilson wrestlers fall at State Tournament

CHATTANOOGA — For a county which sent 17 to the State Wrestling Tournament, Wilson's delegation didn't fare especially well during Wednesday's first day at McKenzie Arena.
Only three of the 17 won their first-round matches and all three went down in the second.
Action resumes today. Whether any of the Wilson 17 return to the mat for consolation rounds will depend on how their conquerors do in subsequent rounds.
Friendship Christian's G.L. Waynick and Maxx Yates-Orr and Alix Yates-Orr, both of Mt. Juliet, won their first-round matches before going down to defeat in the round of 16.
Waynick, who finished sixth in the State last year as a sophomore, pinned Hunters Lane's Quintin Robinson in 2:42 at 285 pounds before going down in a 2-1 decision to Elizabethton's Zack Potter in the second.
Maxx Yates-Orr, who also enjoyed a good run in the State last year, won a technical pin over Hunters Lane's Reggie Sullivan 16-0 at 130 before being pinned in 4:47 by Red Bank's Andy Siler.
Alix Yates-Orr pinned Houston's Alan Matthews in 1:37 at 140 before falling to Hunters Lane's Kerry Dowell in 2:22.
