Wildcats overcome Cookeville 58-55

COOKEVILLE — The Wildcats of Wilson Central came away with a 58-55 win over Cookeville on Friday in the Cookeville Thanksgiving Classic. The win moved Wilson Central to 1-1 on the season.
"We led for the most part," Wildcat coach Troy Bond said. "Cookeville came back and led in the fourth. It was a back-and-forth battle then."
Bond noted that the team did a good job of knocking down free throws toward the end of the contest.
"In the last minute and a half we hit some big free throws," he said. "I'm real proud of our guys. Cookeville's a tough place to play."
JaJuan Brooks led the way with 22 points for Wilson Central. Kelten Stewart fired in 16, Kody Woodard tossed in eight, Travis Adkins six and Tereas Clemmons, Ethan Duke and Daniel Palmer two apiece.
Bond added Arcavius McMurray was "excellent on the defensive end of the ball."
The Wildcats return to Cookeville to play Upperman at 2 p.m. today.

Blue Devils drop first decision
MURFREESBORO — Lebanon's Blue Devils dropped to 3-1 for the season with a 42-45 loss to Father Ryan on Friday in the Oakland Classic.
After falling behind 16-8 in the first quarter, the Devils battled back to get within three points at halftime, 26-23.
Father Ryan was able to maintain the lead throughout the match and was up 29-28 by the third quarter before securing the victory in the final period.
Lebanon's O'Keefe McCarver led all scorers with 21 points.
Also for Lebanon, Hershal McCathern put in six points, Ken Walton and Michael Edwards four each, Alex Johnson added two and Terrence Logue a free throw.
Mark Mulloy led Father Ryan with 17 points.
The Blue Devils will return to Oakland to face Clarksville Northeast at 4:30 p.m. today.
