Trevecca too much for Lady 'Dawgs
The Lady Bulldogs of Cumberland University suffered a 90-77 home loss against TranSouth Conference rival Trevecca Saturday at the Dallas Floyd Center.
The opening portion of the first half was back and forth, both squads were playing well and neither team could establish more than a three point advantage. Cumberland held a two point lead with just over 10 minutes to go in the half before former Mt. Juliet Lady Bear Paige McFarlin tied the game at 25 and sparked a 15-4 Trevecca scoring run.
The Lady Trojans entered the locker room leading 45-39 and didn't look back.
Pressure defense and smart shooting were too much for the Lady Bulldogs in the second half. Trevecca shot 54.7-percent from the floor compared to just 44.8-percent for Cumberland.
The loss dropped Cumberland to 12-3 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
The Lady Trojans Kristin Archie and Mariska Reed and Cumberland's Kiana Robinson led the way with 18 points each. Former Mt. Juliet star Christian Gibson added 12 points for Trevecca and McFarlin finished with six.
For the Lady Bulldogs, Ashley Cross put in 13 points, Renae Williams 10, Tomika Hall eight, Kari Maddox seven, Mareial Ruis six, Isabelli Cunico five, C'Kala Humes four, and Juliana Fernandes, Ewa Bukowska and Kristin Kirkland each had two.
Cumberland travels to Bethel College at 4 p.m. today.
