Tractor-trailer fire stalls traffic

A tractor-trailer fire on Highway 109 near Leeville Pike stalled traffic at rush hour Thursday.

According to Lebanon police Chief Scott Bowen, the cab of the truck caught fire while stopped at a traffic light at about 4:30 p.m.

The driver escaped without injury, but one of the truck’s fuel tanks ruptured and spilled fuel on road surface.

Police blocked traffic on Highway 109 while crews contained the blaze and then cleaned the fuel spill.

Bowen said the company that owned the truck planned to send a crew to help clean the fuel spill.

The driver’s name was not immediately available, and the cause of the fire was unknown.

Both southbound lanes and one northbound lane were reopened by about 5:30 p.m.
