Southside boys reach Haile final

Saints hold off South Cumberland, face Lexington on Saturday

MURFREESBORO — Southside's boys advanced to the James C. Haile State Tournament small division finals Tuesday night by holding off South Cumberland 32-30 at Middle Tennessee Christian.

With the exception of a couple of fourth-quarter ties, the Saints led all the way, including 4-2 following the first quarter, 13-7 at halftime and 19-13 through three as they earned their way into Saturday's 3:30 p.m. final against Lexington with a 12-10 mark.

Dawson Hamilton sealed Southside's win by sinking 7 of 8 free throws in the fourth quarter for his team-leading scoring total. Adam Williams scored six points, Ray Coggins five, Ethan Shelton and Gannon Starnes four each and Cole McCorkle, Chase Ford and Cameron Marshall two apiece.

Hayden Woody tossed in 20 points from the backcourt for South Cumberland, which eliminated Watertown in the quarterfinal round last Saturday.

Eagles end regular season with 16th win

Carroll-Oakland's boys wrapped up their regular season Monday night with a 68-34 win over visiting Friendship Christian on Eighth-Grade Night.

Eighth-graders Cameron Oliver and Jarred Bradshaw each knocked down 19 points for Carroll-Oakland while Noah Mulaski notched nine, Eli Teel seven, Chris Alexander six, Jacob Andrews three and Jackson Gray two as the Eagles finished their regular season at 16-5.

MJCA swept at Clarksville Academy

CLARKSVILLE — Clarksville Academy swept a double header from Mt. Juliet Christian 31-17 [girls] and 24-23 [boys] Tuesday night.

The Lady Cougars led 3-2 following the first quarter, 12-8 at halftime and 22-13 through three periods.

Kiana Chew, Clarksville Academy's 6-foot-3 post, finished with 14 points.

Courtney Wall finished with five points, Abi Hildebrand four and Marcella Gallione, Anna Miller, Caroline Hibbett and Mary Laxton two each for the Lady Saints.

Mt. Juliet Christian's boys led until a six-turnover binge in the final four minutes erased a 21-20 lead.

The Saints were ahead 5-0 following the first quarter, 10-4 at halftime and 15-8 through three periods.

Logan Anderson tossed in two three-pointers in leading Mt. Juliet Christian with eight points while Bailey Jones scored six, Alex Pitman five and Samuel Eastin four.

Mt. Juliet Christian will close the regular season at 6 p.m. Monday with a makeup double header at Merrol Hyde in Hendersonville.
