Softball inks Beech's Montgomery
Cumberland softball coach Heather Stanfill announced the signing of Beech product Kassydi Montgomery to scholarship papers this week for the 2013-14 academic year.
Montgomery has played three years for coach Erica Powell and the Bucs, earning Second Team All-District and All-District Tournament honors as a sophomore and junior. Beech finished last season 49-4 overall and was ranked as high as No. 6 nationally before finishing 41st. The Bucs started the year 47-1 before falling in the region finals and then going 1-2 in the TSSAA State Tournament.
BHS posted a 42-11-2 mark during her sophomore campaign, claiming the 2011 state championship with four victories at the state tournament. Beech lost in the finals of the state tournament in 2010 after registering a 47-6-1 overall mark.
She earned an Academic Athlete Award for a grade-point-average of 3.5 or above and lettered one year in volleyball. She is the daughter of Brad and Krystin Montgomery and her aunt, Niki Foster, played softball at UT Martin.
Volleydawgs sign Independence's Evans
Cumberland volleyball coach Dwayne Deering announced the signing of Independence product Michelle Evans to scholarship papers this week for the 2013 season. Evans is the eighth signee for the Bulldogs for next season.
Evans played her final two seasons at Independence, earning All-District honors as a senior while posting 234 kills, 233 digs, 62 aces and 36 blocks for the Eagles. She also garnered one letter in volleyball for coach Nikki Armstrong as a freshman at Donelson Christian.
She is the daughter of Mike Evans and Rose Evans and joins Sheridan Jones, Laura Peavy, Kasi Wells, McCrea Barney, Ashton Perez, Michelle Daniels and Jenny Daniels in this year’s recruiting class.
Men's soccer inks Reilly
Cumberland men’s soccer coach Jeff Loucks announced the signing of Tom Reilly to scholarship papers for the 2013 season, the first signee for the Bulldogs for next season.
The Buckinghamshire, England, native played soccer, basketball and track and field at St. Joseph’s Primary School and Chalfonts Community College. He won the sports championships and County Cup title in Last 16 Nationals at St. Joseph’s.
He is the son of David Reilly and Caroline Reilly. The Bulldogs graduated just three seniors from last year’s club that finished 7-10-1 overall, including 6-3-1 in the final 10 matches of the season.
