Watertown girls wrap up 20-0 season

Watertown's boys didn't score in the first quarter Monday night. But the Purple Tigers pitched a shutout in the fourth and won on the road with fewer than 20 points, edging Winfree Bryant 19-16.
Earlier, the Tigerettes wrapped up a 20-0 regular season with a 37-28 triumph.
The Aviators unveiled a box-and-one on Purple Tiger point guard Seth Price, holding him scoreless. They led 8-0 following the first quarter, 10-5 at halftime and 16-11 going into the fourth.
Tyriq Love's drive from the free-throw line with two minutes left put the Purple Tigers in front for the first time 17-16. With Winfree Bryant pressing, big man Brady Swann made like pro football Hall of Famer Lynn Swann and went deep for a pass and a breakaway layup for the final points as Watertown, despite 14 missed shots from inside the paint, ended the regular season 15-5.
Love and Swann scored six points apiece for the Purple Tigers while Vonte Bates finished with four, Preston Tomlinson two and Devin High a free throw.
Xavier Brand scored six for Winfree Bryant while Gregory Elliott and D. Bryant each finished with four and Anthony Haffner two.
The Tigerettes led 8-6 following the first quarter, 18-11 at halftime and 27-20 through three periods.
Mya Gaines and Lauren Robertson each finished with 14 points for Watertown while Mya Huddleston scored seven and Claire Edwards two.
Caleah Shannon notched nine points for Winfree Bryant while Hailey Pittman scored six, Maleigha Oldham four, Ashlyn Pittman and Cayleigh Calvo three each, Samantha Newton two and Emily Hines a free throw.
Watertown will next play in the James C. Haile State Tournament at Middle Tennessee Christian in Murfreesboro. The Tigerettes will face North Cumberland at 5:45 p.m. Saturday. The Purple Tigers will open at 12:45 p.m. next Monday against Allardt.
