Perry's 3s spark Bulldogs to home-opening win

Cumberland's men opened their home schedule Thursday night with a 72-62 victory over Oakwood at the Dallas Floyd Center.
E.J. Perry came off the Bulldog bench to lead all scorers with 18 points with all five of his field goals coming from three-point range.
Jerret Towns followed with 16 points and a team-leading nine rebounds and three steals, sinking 6 of 8 free throws along the way. Charles Stewart added 11 points.
Neither team shot well in the first half as Cumberland opened a 29-24 halftime lead. But the Bulldogs heated up to 52 percent after the break as they improved to 2-1 for the season.
Ronald Baltimore scored 17 points and Dave Daly Jr. 14 off the Oakwood bench as each sank three 3-pointers. Ronnie Clark tossed in 12 points and Ryan Moore 10 with 10 rebounds as the visitors from Huntsville, Ala., fell to 0-2.
Brian Blackmon added eight points for Cumberland while Kenneth Stripling finished with five, Daniel McFadden and Taj Abdul-Kaudeyr four apiece and Terry Williams and Lester Gude two each.
Cumberland will get an early start to Mid-South Conference play next Thursday when the Bulldogs travel to Rio Grande in Ohio for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
