Friends of NRA meeting: The Wilson County Friends of NRA will hold its annual kick-off meeting Thursday, Jan. 17, at Courtney’s Café in Mt. Juliet. Dinner is at 6 and the meeting starts at 7. Membership in the organization is not required for attendance.
The Friends of NRA supports the shooting sports in local communities across the country, with special emphasis on youth-oriented organizations, including schools and civic clubs.
The organization has donated over $24,000 in grants to organizations and individuals in Wilson County.
The Friends of NRA banquet and fund-raiser will be held later in the year, with the date yet unannounced.

Hunter education change: Effective Jan. 1, registration for a TWRA Hunter Education course will be required to be made on-line on the Agency website (tnwildlife.org).
Those wishing to register for a class can click the “register for a hunter education class” link. There directions will be provided to search for hunter education classes in a particular area.
Registration must be completed prior to the starting date of a class to ensure a spot in that class.
Anyone lacking computer access is advised to visit a local library or call a TWRA regional office for assistance.

Deer season ends: Deer season concluded Jan. 6, with the exception of a Young Sportsman hunt for juveniles on Jan. 12-13.
Final harvest figures have not been tallied, but are expected to be close to last season’s.
Squirrel, rabbit and quail seasons run through February. Consult the Tennessee Trapping & Hunting Guide for details about seasons, bag limits and other regulations.

Trout stocking: The TWRA’s annual winter trout stocking is underway. Details about specific dates for specific waters are available on tnwildlife.org and in the Tennessee Fishing Guide, available at most outdoors outlets.
