TWRA offers tree grants: The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is offering grants to encourage various organizations to plant trees across the state.

The $500 grants will go to cities, schools, civic groups, conservation groups and others who are interested.

The TWRA is funded almost entirely though the sale of hunting and fishing license and related revenue, but devotes millions of dollars annually to such conservation projects as the tree-restoration project.

Trap shoot: Greg Piercey won a shootoff with Tsuki Yamamoto after both hit 49 of 50 targets in regulation, to capture the Cedar City Gun Club’s weekly trap competition.

Dave Fitzwater won B Division with 37 of 50 hits.

Amber Edwards was top in the Lady’s completion (31), Bill Robb won Senior (46), Ray Hutchensen Veteran (46), Lucas Green Junior (42) and Drew Dove Sub-Junior (33).

The Gun Club also hosted an ATA Registered Shoot last week, with K.J. Davis taking top honors with a rouond of 47.

Danny Shaw won the Open completion (46), Billy Robb Senior Veteran (34), Parry Qualls Class A (46) and Chris Cooper Class B (43).

Hunter Ed: With some hunting seasons already open and others just around the corner, Tennessee residents are reminded that anyone borne after Jan. 1, 1969, must compete a Hunter Education Course in order to obtain a hunting license.

There are some one-time exceptions. For information about license requirements and Hunter Ed courses visit tnwildlife.org consult the Tennessee Trapping and Fishing Guide, available at most outdoors outlets.
