Sales tax figures rise heading into holidays

Sales tax collections in Wilson County increased about $100,000 in October compared to the month before as retailers prepare for the holiday shopping season.

Collections in October totaled nearly $2.92 million in Wilson County, up from $2.81 million in September, according to figures released Wednesday from the Tennessee Department of Revenue. Net collections came in at nearly $2.89 million in October, compared to $2.78 million in September.

Lebanon led the way in sales tax collected with nearly $1.406 million in October, which rose about $1,000 from September.

Wilson County unincorporated areas had the largest gains in October with more than $352,000 net collections in October, compared to more than $318,000 in September.

Mt. Juliet also showed gains in October with nearly $1.11 million, compared to nearly $1.04 million in September.

Watertown’s net sales tax collections showed a slight decrease from about $21,500 in September to about $20,742 in October.
