Services for Mr. Butler will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, at the Gordonsville Chapel of Bass Funeral Homes with Bro. Floyd Massey officiating. Interment in Brush Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15 and 10 a.m. until the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Butler, of Brush Creek, died Monday, Aug. 13, 2012 at Summit Medical Center. Billy Ray Butler was born in the Gladdice Community of Jackson Co., and was the eldest son of the late Carlos Frank Butler and Laura Betty Russell Butler. He was a member of the New Middleton United Methodist Church and was a life-long farmer who enjoyed raising, working, and showing mules and winning hundreds of blue ribbons and championships.
He was preceded in death by: parents; wife of 52 years, Helyn Hudson Sheppard; and brother, Charles Butler.
Survivors include: children, Elizabeth (Duane) Cates of Gallatin, Barbara (Jim) Fuller of Lebanon, Tommy (Connie) Butler of Pleasant Shade and Bryan Butler of Brush Creek; stepchildren, Bill (Harriette) Sheppard of Detroit, Mich. and Susan (Tom) Hedges of Berkeley, Calif.; grandchildren, Casey, Kelli, Sarah, Cristi, Laura, Emily, Matt, Mike and David; great-grandchildren, Davis, Ava, Ethan and Lily Grace; sister, Bonnie Woodard; and brothers, Bobby, James and Harold Butler.
In lieu of flowers, the Butler Family requests donations in Bill’s memory be made to the New Middleton United Methodist Church or the Brush Creek Cemetery.
James Thomas 'Tom' Jones
Graveside Services for Mr. Jones with Military Honors will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug 15, at Mt. Juliet Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Jones, 71, of Mt. Juliet, died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012. He was retired from CSX Railroad after 30 years of service and was the son of the late Charlie and Nannie Weston Jones.
He was preceded in death by: parents; brother, Charles Jones; and sister, JoAnne Maxey.
Survivors include: daughter, Julie (Phillip) Stevens; sister, Mildred (Bob) Agee; brother, William 'Bunky' Jones; grandchildren, T.J. Stevens, Derrick Letmer, Marks Beasley and Destiny Davenport; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Bud Maxey, Dana Hudson, Tommy and Andy Jones, Matt Scharbach and Luther, and Vincent and Chris Lenning.
Bond Memorial Chapel in Mt. Juliet in charge of arrangements.
Evelyn Gertrude Winfree
Services for Mrs. Winfree will be 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, at Avant Funeral Home with Bro. Roger Grisham officiating. Interment in Brush Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15 and 11 a.m. until the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Winfree, 94, of Alexandria, died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012 at her home. She was born in Alexandria to the late Elie Nathaniel Grandstaff and Rosie Mae Davenport. She worked for Alexandria Garment for 23 years and was a member of the Linwood Pentecostal Church.
She was preceded in death by: parents; husband, Fred Adamson Winfreeson; son, Randy Winfree; daughters, Wanda Lassiter and Jeanette Winfree; siblings, Howard and Frank Grandstaff and Elizabeth Winfree.
Survivors include: children, Annette (Stan) Mitchell of Saluda, S.C., Debra Grisham of Grant, Tenn., Rickey (Sandy) Winfree of Alexandria and Benita Barrett of Brush Creek; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; and sisters, Minnie Grisham and Dorothy Enoch of Carthage.
