Lady Saints eliminate King's, face Knoxville Webb today

MT. JULIET — Mt. Juliet Christian's girls took the lead in the fourth quarter Thursday night to oust King's Academy 44-38 in the first round of the Division II District 1-A tournament.

King's led 25-23 going into the fourth before Mt. Juliet Christian outscored the Lady Lions 21-13 in the final eight minutes to advance to today's 2:30 p.m. CST semifinal at top-seed Knoxville Webb.

The Lady Saints led 7-3 following the first quarter and 13-12 at halftime.

Amanda Wall led a balanced Lady Saint offense with 11 points while Lynnze Ethridge and Lauren Wankel each tossed in 10. Shelby Leech sank a pair of three-pointers on her way to seven points while Meredith Orr finished with four and Caroline Scott two.

Cat Holland had 15 for King's.

St. Andrew's ousts Saints

SEWANEE — St. Andrew's-Sewanee's boys pulled away from Mt. Juliet Christian in the third quarter Thursday night as the Mountain Lions ousted the Saints from the Division II District 1-A tournament 45-31.

A 16-2 third turned a 16-13 halftime edge into a 32-22 cushion going into the fourth as St. Andrew's advanced to today's semifinal at top-seed Knoxville Webb. The Saints' season is over at 9-16.

Eric Baynard bagged a pair of three-pointers in leading St. Andrew's with 17 points.

Trevor West tossed in 10 points to lead Mt. Juliet Christian while Alex Graves added eight, Zach Jones five and Jackson Harrell and Gilbert Russ four apiece.
