Friendship fans set for big game
Nov 28, 2012 10:00 pm
Friendship Christian fans and family who plan to attend Saturday’s Blue Cross Bowl should know some items of interest to get the full Commander experience.
According to Friendship Christian headmaster Jon Shoulders, a special tailgate breakfast is planned Saturday at 9 a.m. before the Commanders kick off a state championship matchup with Adamsville at 11 a.m. at Tucker Stadium on the Tennessee Tech campus in Cookeville.
“We are going to do a big tailgate and breakfast that morning at the pavilion there at the stadium,” Shoulders said.
In addition, Shoulders said the big game will feature a dress code for Friendship fans.
“This year, we are visitors, so we are wearing white,” Shoulders said. “So the boys wanted to do a white out. They printed out white T-shirts and rally towels, and the first 400 people will get a T-shirt that morning.”
About 400 “Commander White-Out T-shirts” and 288 Commander white-out rally towels will be given away Saturday morning beginning at 9 a.m. at the tailgate pavilion on a first-come, first-serve basis.
“When you have a unit school, you become a part of it for life,” Shoulders said. “In the South, football is a big part of life. Other sports are big, but they just don’t have the following. Football really becomes part of the community. It’s just that good, old Southern atmosphere of football. It’s really a blessing to watch.”
The tailgate will take place at the covered pavilion at the right end of Tucker Stadium on the south side. Fans are encouraged to bring food, drinks and paper supplies.
State championship game tickets are available for $12 at the Friendship Christian school’s main office. A portion of advanced tickets sold at the school will go to Friendship Christian, but tickets will also be available at the gate Saturday morning.
Shoulders said Friendship varsity basketball games scheduled for Thursday and Friday are cancelled and will be rescheduled later due to the football state championship.
