Austin Peay's McClure to be honored at CU baseball dinner, auction Feb. 1

Cumberland's baseball team will host its annual Kickoff Dinner and Auction at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 1 in the Benton Jennings Center on the CU.

The evening will include a silent and live auction of baseball memorabilia, with all proceeds benefitting the CU baseball program. 

This year’s dinner will feature a Mexican Fiesta.

The Bulldogs will honor former player and current Austin Peay head coach Gary McClure, who is just 24 wins away from becoming the all-time leader in wins in the Ohio Valley Conference. Long-time Murray State head coach Johnny Reagan is currently No. 1 on the list with 752 victories.

Baseball season tickets now on sale

Season tickets are now on sale for the 2013 Cumberland baseball season, with the Bulldogs playing 28 home games, including four at Veterans Field, beginning February 13 versus former TranSouth Conference foe Freed-Hardeman.

Cost of season tickets is $50 per seat and the home schedule features games against seven teams ranked or receiving votes in NAIA Preseason Top 25. Overall, CU will face 14 teams that are ranked or receiving votes in the preseason poll and two clubs that participated in the 2012 Avista-NAIA World Series.

CU will start the season with a three-game series Feb. 8-9 at Southern Poly before taking on Freed-Hardeman on Feb. 13 in the home opener at 2 p.m. The Bulldogs will play Union University and Indiana University-Southeast on Feb. 15-16, with one game at Ernest L. Stockton Field/Woody Hunt Stadium and one at Veterans Field on each day.

Cumberland will begin Mid-South Conference action against Georgetown College on Feb. 22-23 at home. CU plays three straight MSC series on the road after that, heading to the University of the Cumberlands, Shawnee State and Pikeville before returning home March 22-23 to face St. Catharine College.

The Bulldogs will host nonconference contests against Bethel University (March 3), Missouri Baptist (March 11-12), West Virginia Tech (March 13) and Faulkner University (March 19) at Ernest L. Stockton Field/Woody Hunt Stadium and will take on Judson College (March 11) and Martin Methodist (March 12) at Veterans Field in the month of March.

Cumberland will end the regular season with an eight-game homestand beginning April 12-13 against Virginia-Wise. CU will also take on Mid-Continent (April 16) and Trevecca Nazarene (April 17) before finishing the regular season versus Bluefield (April 19-20).
