Roberts HRs, Maynard one-hitter lift Lebanon
ANTIOCH — Missy Roberts hit a pair of two-run homers to back the one-hit pitching of Meghan Maynard on Friday as Lebanon opened the Middle Tennessee Coaches Association tournament with a 5-1 win over Coffee County at Cane Ridge Park.
Lacey Doak homered in the top of the first inning. After Coffee County tied the score in the bottom half, she singled in the third and scored on Roberts' first blast.
Roberts followed a walk to Kenzie Fish with her second shot in the fifth and final frame.
Marynard allowed one hit and no walks while striking out four in a game held to five frames by a one-hour, 10-minute time limit.
Lebanon will face Creek Wood at 8 a.m. today at Antioch High School before returning to Cane Ridge at noon for the single-elimination round.
Harris pitches Lady Saints by Hillwood
FRANKLIN — After absorbing an 8-0 loss to Livingston Academy, Mt. Juliet Christian beat Hillwood 5-2 in the Middle Tennessee Softball Coaches Association tournament Friday at Fly Field.
Courtney Harris allowed two hits and no walks to Hillwood as a one-hour, 15-minute time limit held the game to five innings. She struck out eight as Mt. Juliet Christian climbed to 2-3.
Ashley Hudson hit a two-run single and doubled for the Lady Saints while Harris drove in a run on a pair of singles. Paige Hudson doubled while Leanna Sanders, Shannon Beauvais and Cali Beard singled.
Paige Hudson went the five-inning distance and gave up nine hits in taking the loss to Livingston. The Lady Saints were held offensively to doubles by Hannah Staggs and Danielle Adkisson and a single by Ashley Hudson.
Mt. Juliet Christian will return to Fly Field this morning for a 9:30 a.m. tilt with Houston County before the elimination round begins at noon.
