Harlon Byington

Funeral Services for Mr. Byington will be 1 p.m. Thursday Sept. 13, at Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home with Bro. Donald Owens officiating. Interment in Cedar Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12 and 11 a.m. until the service on Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Byington, 72, of Lebanon died Monday, Sept. 10, 2012, at St. Thomas Hospital. He was born in Nov. of 1939 in Surgoinsville, Tenn. to the late Thomas and Maggie Lou McClain Byington. He worked in the injection molding industry and was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by: parents; sisters, Janice Dye, Mary Dye and Gladys Byington; and brother, Gene Byington.

Survivors include: wife, Earlene Sircy Byington; children, Ashley (Josh) Hunt of Lebanon, Susan (Chuck) Whitley and Lisa Byington all of Hendersonville, Joey (Amanda) Byington of Portland, Tony (Connie) Byington of Church Hill, Tenn., Ruth Ann Blair of Westmoreland and Lisa (Bobby) Simpson of Bethpage; brother, Conner (Evelyn) Byington of Ohio; sisters, Dorothy Robinson of Ohio, Creeda (Larry) Villo and Wanda (Ray) Moon all of Fla.; and 14 grandchildren.

Lori Crowder

Funeral Services for Mrs. Crowder will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, at Hillcrest Baptist Church. Visitation will be noon-8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15 at Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home and 1 p.m. until the service on Sunday at the church.

Mrs. Crowder, 43, of Lebanon, died Monday, Sept. 10, 2012 at Vanderbilt Medical Center.

William Herman James

Funeral Services for Mr. James will be 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 14, at the Gordonsville Chapel of Bass Funeral Home with Bro. Mark Stinnett and Mark Medley officiating. Interment in Baird Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, 4-8 p.m Thursday, Sept. 13 and 9 a.m. until the service on Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. James, 87, of Hickman, Tenn., died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012, at Elmcroft in Lebanon. He was born in Oct. of 1924 to the late Frank Bryant James and Delia Ann Gwaltney. He graduated from Gordonsville High School and attended Tennessee Tech University. He then joined the United States Navy. While in the Navy, he attended both the University of Louisville and Iowa State College. He served until the end of WWII and enrolled at TTU again. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics and minors in both Math and Education. He worked for NASA at Langley Field, Va. and later became the principal at Chestnut Mound School, as well as teaching grades five through eight. He also taught math, chemistry and physics at Watertown High School and later taught for 32 years in the science department at GHS until his retirement. He also earned his Masters in Education with a minor in Biology and served as Principal of GHS from 1976 to 1977 and served as Guidance Counselor from 1969 to 1986. He was a member of Hickman Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by: parents; wife, Una Lee Lawrence James; and friend, Leslie Armistead.

Survivors include: children, Teresa (Howard) Ballard of New Middleton, Tenn., and William (Vicky) James of Lebanon; grandchildren, Rachel (Jon) Kelley of Gordonsville, Joshua (Susan) James of Arlington, Va. and Andrew James of Wasington D.C.; step-grandchildren, Paula Withrow, Penny Kinslow and Pamela Sweat; great-grandchildren, Kaitlin and Lucas Carter; seven step great-grandchildren; and friend, Clarence Nixon of Hickman.

The James Family request memorials be made to the GHS Science Club or the Pat Summitt Alzheimer’s Foundation.
